Description

SECE was a two-year research project at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV), Stockholm University, investigating how co-located participatory mixed reality experiences can enable new forms of artistic expression in cultural venues. In collaboration with Ericsson Research and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, the project developed a cross-reality platform allowing multiple users to simultaneously inhabit the same physical space while experiencing different states of the reality-virtuality continuum. The technology was demonstrated for invited stakeholders at Kulturhuset in June 2025, and the final performance happened outdoors in Sergelstorg, Stockholm in June 2026.

My role in the project was on the technical side, managing the development of the cross-reality platform including co-location architecture, networked multi-user synchronization, and the mixed-reality interactions that allows users and virtual objects to move fluidly between mixed and fully virtual environments.
